What a weekend for all of us in Malaysia, being part of history and we all live to tell it today!
History was created in this Nation of ours with several firsts. They include:
a) A Federal Parliament ruled by a simple majority
b) Voting across racial lines
c) The ruling coalition conceded "defeat" by any measure seen to-date
d) The ghost of 1969 has been well buried and the bogey-man since has finally RIP
e) 4 States on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia won by "opposition" forming a contiguous strip of land with rice fields in the north and industries in the south
and, most important
f) The people are now firmly in control with ability to change any government
We the People will now await for the deliverables to be put on the Peoples' table and to me they include:
i) Local Government elections
ii) Transparent and open governance; minimal secrecy surrounding public funds and accountability across all sectors
iii) Racial and religion "Divide & Rule policies" to be buried with the ghost of 1969
iv) More places of worship for all faiths
v) Improve religious understanding amongst various faiths; no religion to be subservient to any other religion
vi) Assisting the poor regardless of religion, faiths, race and political background
I know we don't live in a Utopian state but what I'm looking for is neither Utopian by any measure.
LONG LIVE MALAYSIA.
We finally show them that we have Grown after 50 years of independence!
